The place
Adams Hut on Banks Peninsula, in the Akaroa/Little River area (Canterbury, South Island, New Zealand), at 341 m elevation, on the ancient Lyttelton volcano. Part of the continuous Canterbury cluster (batches 231-284). A hut on the Te Ara Pātaka (Summit Walkway, 34 km), in an area of podocarp forest degraded since Pākehā settlement. Bilingual heritage of Ngāi Tahu (Māori iwi) and French settlers (French colony of Akaroa, 1840).
