Abri Tharta

The place

Pastoral shelter at 1440 m at the Col de Tharta, in the Basque Country massif (Pyrénées-Atlantiques). Reserved for shepherds, but a closed-off front porch allows shelter in case of absolute need. Only the front grey-metal part is accessible. Interior almost empty, but concrete floor sheltered from bad weather — can save you from a storm. Access from the GR 10 south of the Chalets d'Iraty, passing the Cayolar d'Orgambidia and following the pastoral track towards the Pic d'Orhy, then the ridge path to the end of the track.
