The place

Unstaffed shelter at 380 m at the Col du Rotenberg, a waypoint between Châtenois and the summit of the Haut-Koenigsbourg (central Vosges, Bas-Rhin). An intermediate stop on the route to the famous medieval castle overlooking the Alsace plain. Renovated interior with fine wooden tables and benches; open cabin, no locked door. Jointly managed by the Club Vosgien Sélestat and the municipality of Kintzheim. A popular spot for a lunch break while hiking; not recommended as an overnight stop except in exceptional weather conditions. A central Vosges forest setting: beech-oak woods, Club Vosgien trails linking Châtenois, Kintzheim, Sélestat and the Haut-Koenigsbourg. A panoramic position over the Rhine plain and the Alsace vineyards. A historic route dating back to medieval times, a waypoint on local pilgrimages.

Getting there

Châtenois → Haut-Koenigsbourg trail via Col du Rotenberg. Managed by CV Sélestat / municipality of Kintzheim. A lunch stop is recommended.
