The place

Shelter at 1100 m in the Hautes-Vosges, accessed from the Col du Haag (near the Grand Ballon) via the GR532 yellow-rectangle trail towards the Markstein (north side of the Storkenkopf), 100 m off the GR532 alongside a forest track leading to the Lac du Ballon. Shelter providing protection from rain and wind, with no stove or fireplace but with a table and benches. No water nearby. Nice view towards the Moorfeld ridge, next to the Storkenkopf and the famous Grand Ballon (1424 m, the roof of the Vosges massif). Worthwhile in winter for a break on snowshoes or skis.
