The place
Solidly built shelter in very good condition at 1220 m, 200 m north of the GR 101 at the Col du Prat du Rey, slightly upstream (Hautes-Pyrénées, Pibeste-Aoulhet Nature Reserve). Unstaffed hut, free access all year for herders and hikers. Equipment: broom, small table, two chairs, 4 foam mattresses, cooking pots, tea. Solid wood-covered sleeping platform. Water sources nearby but hard to find and with very low flow in summer (about 1 litre in 30 minutes for the nearest one; the second, 500 m to the north-east, behind the ruins of a sheepfold, has a slightly better flow — 35 minutes for 1 litre). Water must be purified (grazing area).
