Abri du col de Pailhères
The place
Planned sleeping capacity: 1. Mainly intended as an emergency shelter for motorists caught out by a storm at the pass. Can be useful in winter when the pass is closed. One large room with a concrete floor and a corner fireplace. An outdoor table and an indoor one plus a large bench, a sleeping platform for one. No water (except snow in winter) and firewood has to be carried up from the valley. Exactly at the Col de Pailhères, alongside the D25 between Ax-les-Thermes and Mijanès.
Getting there
Situé directement au col de Pailhères, en bordure de la route entre Ax-les-Thermes et Mijanès ; accessible en voiture par beau temps, mais route fermée l'hiver.
The setting
Col pyrénéen de haute altitude (2001m) en Ariège ; abri simple avec une grande pièce, sol en béton, cheminée d'angle, table intérieure/extérieure et banc. Pas d'eau sur place hormis la neige en hiver, bois à monter depuis la vallée.

Non gardé ; conçu à l'origine comme refuge de secours pour les automobilistes surpris par une tempête au col.
