The place

The Abri du col de Montjoie is a concrete-block stone shelter with a sheet-metal roof, a concrete slab floor, and an unblocked door and window. The equipment is basic: a wooden bench available, as well as concrete ledges for sitting inside, and a spot set up for a barbecue outside (but bring your own firewood!). Water is quite far away, so you should stock up beforehand. Room to lie down on the floor for 5 to sleep (a bit cramped). The pass is accessible either from the Col de la Madeleine road (Longchamp 1650, or the bend at 1,896 m), or from the Épierre side via forest tracks and paths. To be detailed... -
