The place
A mid-altitude shelter (~870 m) on the slopes of Mont Humboldt (1618 m), the second-highest peak in New Caledonia after Mont Panié (1629 m), in the Province Sud. The ascent passes through a humid forest with a remarkable moss canopy — one of the most magnificent environments in New Caledonia: 2000 plant species, 80% of them endemic. A stop on the 3-day Mont Humboldt traverse from the 18 km trail leading to the old mine. Setting adjacent to the Parc Provincial des Grandes Fougères.
