Abri de Miribel
The place
Unstaffed cabin at 1240 m in the Belledonne massif, a former farm converted into a shelter. Solid building fitted with a fireplace and a stove, no drinking water on site. Since December 2016 the cabin has been locked: access is restricted, and according to recent reports it is reputedly inaccessible to ordinary hikers. Originally, the site was simply a roof resting on four posts against the rock; the current building is of more recent construction. Located in the upper valleys sector of Livet-et-Gavet, on the edge of the Bois des Faures area and close to the Cabanes des Clots de Miribel (1510 m) and the Cabane forestière des Descendues (1240 m). Typical high-altitude forest setting of Belledonne, fir and old beech woods, iconic wildlife including black grouse, chamois and roe deer. Its function as a day shelter should be confirmed with the manager before any trip.
