The place
Unstaffed cabin set at 1700 m in the Grandes-Rousses and Arves massif (Hautes-Alpes / Savoie / Isère border), on the southern fringe of the Refuge de l'Étendard area (2430 m). A basic, freely accessible refuge offering 6 sleeping spots. Located in the high summer-pasture valleys of the Saint-Sorlin-d'Arves / Vaujany sector, a useful base for high-altitude loops in the Grandes-Rousses (Pic de l'Étendard 3464 m, Lac Bramant and Lac Blanc) and the Arves traverse. A mineral, lake-dotted setting typical of the high glacial plateaus between the Eau d'Olle valley (Bourg-d'Oisans) and the Arc valley (Maurienne). Emblematic wildlife: chamois, reintroduced ibex, marmots, golden eagle and black grouse. No guaranteed water on site — bring your own. About 4.5 km from the Refuge de l'Étendard for high-altitude connections.
