The place

Large unguarded wooden shelter set at 946 m in the Haut Beaujolais (Mâconnais-Lyonnais), about 450 m south of the Mont Saint-Rigaud, the highest summit in the Rhône department (1009 m, nicknamed the "Roof of the Rhône"). The three-walled shelter with a roof along a forest road offers protection from rain for walkers and hikers. No other particular equipment — used as a day stop. Starting from the Croix d'Amanzé car park (commune of Monsols), you can follow a 2 km waymarked educational trail with information panels up to the summit of Mont Saint-Rigaud. The shelter serves as a reference point for several routes linking the Col de Crie, Propières, Monsols and the Mont Monnet (1000 m). Typical Haut Beaujolais forest setting: beech woods, fir forests, ridge meadows, open views over the Monts du Beaujolais and the Saône valley.
