Abri de la Couleuvre
The place
Hunters' hut at 670 m in the Chartreuse (Isère). Water butt, barbecue, plenty of firewood around, tables and chairs. Serves as shelter in bad weather, for eating, barbecuing on site, and you can even sleep there. No spring nearby: bring enough water. Access from La Murette: pass the cemetery and take the trail at the end of the road. At a junction with an old ruin, keep left, then at another fork, take the right (the trail gradually becomes overgrown with brambles). The trail leads to a pass; the shelter is on the knoll to the left. Warning: very steep trail! Next to the hut is the "Trou de la Couleuvre", a sort of deep fissure about 20 m deep, dangerous access as it's made up of pebbles set in clay that can come loose.
