Via Alpina Étape 16 : Lenk - Gstaad
The place
#### Ascent into Lynx Territory: Lenk to Gstaad The route begins in Lenk and takes you into the lynx's natural habitat, running alongside the Wallegggraben. A striking landscape of limestone karren opens up to hikers, with an exceptional panoramic view. The climb then leads to the Trüttlisbergpass, before descending into the Turbachtal valley, rich in varied history, to finally arrive at the prestigious destination of Gstaad. #### Crossing Natural Landscapes The route first crosses the Wallbach to reach spectacular gorges where impressive natural pools have formed in the rock. The path climbs again in altitude, winding through green meadows before reaching the tree line. #### Viewpoints and History At the far end of the hike, the imposing peaks of the Wildstrubel and Wildhorn mark the border with Valais. The legendary Rawyl pass bears witness to ancient trade routes. Opposite, the Tierberg and its Neolithic cave rise on the horizon. Crossing the Trüttlisbergpass offers sweeping views over the Turbach valley, with Lake Lauenensee and the spectacular Geltenschuss falls to the south. #### Trail through the Turbach Valley The descent begins through trails surrounded by marshland, skirting the foothills of the Hornfluh and Giferhorn. Advancing into the preserved Turbach valley, the route follows the watercourse between steep slopes. The meadows become lusher as you approach the village, reflecting the agricultural activity that extends right to the gates of Gstaad. #### Arrival in Gstaad: A Chic Conclusion The route finally ends in the village of Gstaad, known as a sophisticated and world-renowned retreat, providing an elegant finale to this mountain adventure.
Why go
L'étape traverse le Trüttlisbergpass, point culminant du parcours à environ 2032 m, à la frontière communale de Gstaad, avec une vue dégagée sur le Turbachtal. Juste au nord du col, le sommet secondaire du Türli offre un panorama sur l'Eiger et jusqu'aux Diablerets. La descente suit ensuite la longue vallée du Turbachtal, encaissée entre le Hornfluh et le Giferhorn, jusqu'à la station huppée de Gstaad.
Detailed route
Depuis Lenk, le sentier passe par le restaurant Wallegg-Stube puis Undere/Obere Lochberg avant de grimper jusqu'au Trüttlisbergpass, point culminant de l'étape. Il redescend ensuite via le Türli vers le hameau de Pfündli puis le village de Turbach, avant de longer le Turbach jusqu'à Oberbort et la chapelle St-Niklaus, pour finir à la gare de Gstaad.
Recommended gear
Le tracé est classé comme itinéraire de randonnée de longue distance de difficulté « schwer » (difficile) en raison du dénivelé cumulé et du passage en altitude ; de bonnes chaussures de randonnée et du matériel adapté à la montagne restent recommandés, sans nécessiter d'équipement technique d'alpinisme.
Best season
Le Trüttlisbergpass, point haut de l'étape à plus de 2000 m, n'est généralement accessible que l'été et au début de l'automne, une fois la neige fondue.
