Siljansleden
The place
Siljansleden is a 340 km circular hiking route around Lake Siljan in Dalarna, Sweden, one of the country's most beautiful lakes. The trail passes traditional timber houses (the typical red Dalarna cottages), medieval churches and chapels, historic village halls, and timeless landscapes of birch and pine. Well marked and well maintained, with regular access to services and overnight stays in bed & breakfasts, hostels, and cabins. Perfect for families and beginners.

A bit of history
Lake Siljan was formed by a meteorite impact 376 million years ago and has attracted settlements since time immemorial. Dalarna is the heartland of Swedish folk culture; the Siljan region is home to the art of Dalin and Zorn and the birthplace of the famous Vasaloppet tradition.

Mora: train from Stockholm (3h, Dalabanan line). Rättvik: train from Stockholm (2h30).

Best season
May to September. Midsummer (June) with major festivities. Autumn brings berry picking and the colors of the deciduous forest.
