A bit of history
Created by the Federació d'Entitats Excursionistes de Catalunya (FEEC) in the 2000s, the Sender Històric follows old paths once used by blacksmiths, traders and farmers to travel between the Catalan regions.
Getting there
La Jonquera: accessible from Perpignan (bus/train, 30 min). Tortosa: train from Barcelona (2h30) or Valencia. Easy access from Barcelona.
Recommended gear
Waterproof trekking shoes. Layered clothing. Sun protection (coastal and Ebro areas are very sunny).
Best season
March to June and September to November. Summer is very hot in the Terres de l'Ebre.
