Saint Rupert (c. 650–710) founded St Peter's Abbey in Salzburg and evangelized the Bavarian duchy. The Way of St James (pilgrim route to Santiago) and the Rupertiweg share a common corridor in Bavaria, as pilgrims from Austria and Bohemia used both routes.
