Why go

Troodos massif and Mount Olympus (highest point of the island). Byzantine monasteries: Kykkos, Trooditissa, Chrysorrogiatissa (wine producing). Aphrodite's Rock (Petra tou Romiou). Venetian bridges. Cypriot Commandaria wine (one of the world's oldest wines).

A bit of history

The E4 spans from Portugal (Tarifa) to Cyprus (Protaras) as one of the European Ramblers Association's major trans-European routes. The Cyprus section was developed in the 2000s by the Cyprus Tourism Organization and trails associations to provide a structured alternative to coastal mass tourism.

Getting there

Paphos: international airport (flights from across Europe). Protaras: near Larnaca airport (30 min). Excellent public bus network on the island.

Recommended gear

Lightweight hiking boots. Sun hat and sunscreen (essential). Water (streams dry in summer). Lightweight clothing.

Best season

October to April. May–September too hot at low elevations. December–February cool on Troodos, possible snow on summit.
