A bit of history
The E4 European path (Tarifa to Cyprus) passes through Switzerland as part of its central European section. The Swiss Federation of Hiking Trails (SchweizMobil) integrates the E4 into its national network of 65 000 km of marked hiking routes.
Getting there
Genève: international hub. Bregenz: train from Zürich (2h). Switzerland has excellent public transport throughout.
Recommended gear
Hiking boots. Layered clothing. Swiss day hiking infrastructure well-developed — no camping needed.
Best season
April to November. Snow on Jura ridges possible November–April.
