A bit of history
The E10 was established by the European Ramblers Association as part of the network of long-distance European paths. In Brandenburg, the route was developed after German reunification (1990) as part of the opening of East German countryside to recreational walking.
Getting there
Rügen: train from Berlin (2h30). Aachen: train from Cologne (30 min), from Brussels (1h30). Germany has excellent rail coverage throughout.
Recommended gear
Light hiking shoes (flat terrain). Bicycle as optional complement on long straight sections. Insect repellent (forests).
Best season
April to October. July–August hot and humid. October ideal with autumn colours.
