The place
The third section of the Vosges–Pyrenees trail crosses the Burgundy plateau from Langres to Chalon-sur-Saône, on the borders of Burgundy and Haute-Marne. Over about 120 km, the route follows the Vingeanne and Saône valleys through farmland and vineyards, oak forests, and villages roofed with traditional Burgundian tiles. An easy lowland trail, ideal for hikers of all levels.

A bit of history
The Vosges–Pyrenees route links Alsace to the Pyrenees in several sections along a north–south axis crossing the major natural and cultural regions of eastern France. This Burgundy section follows old rural trade and community-access paths.
Getting there
Langres: regional (TER) train station (from Chaumont or Dijon). Chalon-sur-Saône: high-speed (TGV) train station (from Paris, 1h30). Easy access from Dijon.
Recommended gear
Lightweight hiking shoes. Rain jacket. No technical equipment required.
Best season
Year-round. Best periods: spring and autumn. Very hot in the lowlands in July–August.
