The place
A 112km trail through the heart of the Lake District from Ulverston on the southern edge of the fells to Carlisle in the north, passing Coniston Water, Great Langdale and Keswick before crossing the quieter northern fells around High Pike (658m) to finish on lower ground into Carlisle. It gives a genuine cross-section of Lakeland scenery — lakeshore paths, the dramatic Langdale Pikes, the Stake Pass crossing into Borrowdale, and remote grazing country beyond Caldbeck — without requiring any scrambling or exposed ridge walking.
