Refuge du Col du Petit Cucheron
The place
Recently renovated refuge at 1228 m near the Col du Petit Cucheron (Belledonne, Savoie). Along a forest road closed to traffic from the Col du Grand Cucheron heading north towards the Fort de MontGilbert, about a 30-minute walk. Bright single room with 4 beds with mattresses and a comfortable foam bench. New wood stove installed in 2026 (takes 50 cm logs), axe and saw, dishes, table for 6 people and benches. No running water. Marked on IGN 3433OT map as a building but not as a refuge, slightly north-west of the Col du Petit Cucheron.
Getting there
Point de départ au col du Grand Cucheron, puis environ 30 minutes à pied par une route forestière fermée à la circulation, jusqu'au col du Petit Cucheron.
The setting
Cabane du massif de Belledonne, commune Le Pontet (Savoie). Quatre places sur matelas avec couvertures, poêle à bois neuf, table pour 6 personnes, bancs. Eau via réservoir pluvial (pas d'eau courante). Latrines présentes.
A bit of history
Construit à l'origine par des jeunes volontaires de l'association Concordia. Fiche ouverte sur refuges.info depuis 2006. Rénové en mai 2026 par l'association du SEL de la vallée des Huiles (nouveau poêle à bois installé, matelas et couvertures ajoutés).
