Malga Valbona
The place
A former summer-pasture malga on the north side of the Lagorai at around 1780 m, near the Cima di Valbona and the SAT trails of the area, in the upper Val Cadino / Val di Fiemme (Trentino). A stone-and-wood building once used by shepherds for the summer transhumance of dairy cattle; today used occasionally as a shelter for outings and a stopover point on the long routes of the Lagorai. The area, wild and lightly frequented, is crossed by trails leading to the Paolo e Nicola, Argentino Vanin, and Malga Cima bivouacs, which form the backbone of multi-day crossings of the massif. A mineral setting typical of the high porphyry plateaus of the eastern Lagorai.
